You had me when you said we blank out when asked to introduce ourselves because we’re searching for which version of ourselves suit the moment… It can be exhausting.
But you’re right. We’re constantly auditioning for people and vice versa. I don’t even know if being conscious about it will help but let’s see…
As for those people who constantly put out information on how to pin a man down, I laugh so hard and hiss at the same time when I come across them but hey, like you said, everyone is auditioning for the role they want. So, good luck to them actually getting the part. I’ll be out here cheering with my popcorn in hand.
Being ourselves is quite easy, but society, or our view of what it expect us to be, has forced us to be come actors. And the worse part is that for some of us, the line between who we are and our persona is almost non existent.
Oh I've been aware that i display myself differently to different people sometimes even without meaning to. This newsletter just puts it in the best way possible
I've seen different write-ups trying to convey this message, but this is the first time I'm getting this view. Usually I'll see, try to find yourself, and be more authentic, be more you, and all that. All of which are annoyingly difficult. But I like this view, where you're simply aware of it, not that there is a specific role you play, but you´re aware of the different roles and versions. In fact, I think that's a step to actually "find yourself".
The part that struck me was how we're constantly collecting information about others just as they are about us.
I sometimes feel like I'm on the receiving end that I have to act a certain way to be accepted but I'm grateful that it's not just me. Somehow, it's a burden we all carry

Cheering with popcorn in hand is real!😂 I can’t even stress at this point.
Being conscious of it is actually a two edged sword but, I’ve made peace with the auditioning and vice versa

Yes! When all is said and done, it gets harder and harder to figure out who you are without the noise
Finally got the actual app because of your brilliant story telling.
😆🥹 thank you so much!
I really appreciate it

Yes! “Be authentic” always rubs me off the wrong way. Because what does authenticity even mean?
Exactly, it's the kind of question that sort of leaves you blank.
I guess this started from our mothers telling us to "behave". Which means that this started before social media became a thing.
