Are you on a break or is it just laziness…
I’m very skeptical about rest days. I love taking breaks and I generally prefer my daily affairs handled with spaces in between for rest.
But this “rest” will eventually land me into trouble😕😂
In my head, there’s a very thin line between a rest day and a rest week. It’s just like when you have 40k and you spend 500 out of it, your brain automatically tells you to make it a round figure or a figure in 5’s so, 39,500 starts looking like 35k or even 30k, depending on the mood.
This is how rest days are to me. So when I’m making commitments, the battle between my rest day and my work day is like the one at Winterfell.
Not too long ago, I took a “mental health break” from my business and I was really playing with fire but, I needed it. I needed the time off to think, re-strategize and just have zero work items to tick off my to-do list.
So, my date of resumption was I indefinite and, I rested. Days blended together as one and the day’s date or day of the week, was really someone else’s problem. Days turned into a week, two weeks, one month and that’s how I was on a break for 2 months.
It was a big push to resume and it kept me thinking, am I really on a break for my mental health like I said, or am I just being lazy?
I needed the break, rests are good but if I was being honest, I had felt better after a week or two. The remaining 6 weeks were just a game of “should I and should I not’s”.
How did I know this?
I knew that I was done resting after probably 2 weeks because I started accepting offline work. My customers didn’t know I was on a break and when they asked, I just told them that I wasn’t posting for now.
My question now is this, how do I know before hand when to take a break from taking a break?
I sat down for long hours with my therapist, A.K.A myself😎 and we both came up with a plan.
Establish a resumption date: From now on, (till I become a billionaire) all my breaks will be on a schedule. I’ll outline when the break starts and when it ends, just like a school calendar. I believe that this should help my mind know when rest is over and work starts.
Take a shower: On my extended rest days, I’m usually at home, on my bed and distant from personal hygiene 😅. Taking a shower will wake me up and remind me that the day has started and time will continue moving so I better get to work.
Make a plan for the day or month: In my case, I had to make a content calendar. And so far, it has given me some sort of structure. Cause instead of guessing what to do or what to post, I already have a written plan, a structure. Start small by writing down just one item for the day then as you get used to having a routine/structure, you can fit more things into your day and be more productive.
Time limit on “Tiky Toky”: I emphasized on TikTok because the app is my weakness 😂. Make a personal check on the thing that sucks most of your time, put a limit to it and try to be disciplined to the time commitment that you’re making. You’d be surprised at the amount of work you’ll get done when you’re not distracted by your favorite “pass time”.
Look at yourself in the mirror and hype yourself: a whole baby girl/baby boy like you can do everything you’ve set your mind to you. Hype yourself up till you feel invincible, then go to work.
Eat well and sleep well: The worst thing that can happen to you when you’re on your grind is when hunger pains hit or you start feeling sleepy😂. All the “ginger” will fall to the ground. So ladies and gentlemen, eat well and sleep well.
Like they sang in High School Musical, we’re all in this together.
Goodluck💕😎.
Are you also struggling with extended breaks? I’d love to hear them in the comments😆
